Some Favs from Photography Class

We took a field trip last weekend to The Sacramento Capitol Building. My partner, Michelle, was awesome! For Portraits Class, our assignment was to take photos of one another in various settings. (Most of these are a little out of focus. I'm learning that manual focus is actually the hardest things for me to learn so far! I assumed that would be a piece of cake!)

We even had to use "special effects" such as saran wrap over the lens. . .

 And using props. . .

We had to ask a stranger (or stranger's parent) if we could take photos and have them sign a model release.

For my other class, Camera Manipulation, we had to take photos of many different things/ situations and one part of it was to take photos emphasizing the main subject, as if it were for a post card. That was REALLY fun for me.

And of course, a self portrait so we would be forced to learn to use the timer on the camera.

I still have a lot to learn but I'm sure having fun!

valentines day

This Valentines Day I've been thinking about and Alan and what makes us "US.". . .

We are Jamba Juice for dinner. We are writing songs together. We are call me cause I lost my phone. We are getting our house in order. We are massages at home to save money. We are spontaneous road trips. We are why do we go through laptops faster than toilet paper? We are "Would you like to pray?" We are sometimes polar opposites. We are trying to remember to use the leftovers in the fridge. We are I like that country song, too. We are let's make the best of it cause it's all we got. We are check out this cool software. We are "Let's watch that funny, dorky Disney channel show cause it's clean." We are dreaming of traveling. We are never take our wedding rings off. We are bigger than our problems. We are a family. We are in love.

Happy Valentines Day!

Well friends, I've always had a passion for photography and I REALLY want to learn how to use my new camera. So I figure it's time. It's time to learn how to take pictures, for real. I know I will get so much satisfaction out of knowing how to get the results I desire. So I'm taking 3 Photography classes at the Community Center from nationally known photographer Bonita Chimes! It's great fun but much more complicated than I thought! You have to learn to balance the complexities of lighting and millions of different lenses with the shutter speed and the F-stops and the flashes and the metering, and lots of other mumbo jumbo! I was trying out some techniques our instructor taught us and I'm not quite grasping everything yet. It's complicated! But I am trying my darndest to stop using the camera on the automatic settings (she says it's evil) and today I took this one. And it's not totally blurry, or washed out, or too dark! It doesn't stink! Oh ya!

Random Pics

Alan's mom was in the hospital with appendicitis so the girls worked really hard on a poster to send her.

 Fun park times!

Alan photoshopped himself into this photo of President Hinckley and Elder Haight. So funny!
