Ever notice how there is almost always a parent missing in Disney movies and TV shows? This was starting to bug so I decided to make a list to see just how bad it was. Here you go:

I love Disney as much as the next gal, but isn't that rather disturbing? Maybe they do that so you'll see that the character's parent(s) died, and you'll feel for them and want to fill that gap for them. My major was Cultural Studies so this kind of thing intrigues me. What do you think?

This made me laugh when I first read it because its something I never picked up before. Its obviously intentional, which is a bit disturbing. Either Disney knows something about the psychology of not having parents that helps sell movies or they really are, er um, disturbed.
wow. Never really noticed that there were so many Disney movies without both or one parent. I have noticed it in a few but didn't make that connection. Pretty Interesting.
Wow - definitely a pattern going on there. I never put that together before. Hmmmm.... Is there ANY Dinsey movie where they have both parents?
I am shocked!! I notice during the movies...but never thought about the pattern in so many! I am definitely curious now...time for you to make a follow-up list of the ones where there are actually TWO parents!
Funny to read this right now... I had another disturbing thought, just today in fact, regarding Disney and a very similar issue. The thought was triggered by the show 'Good Luck Charlie', where the parents (and dad in particular) are made out to be complete idiots! It isn't just Disney, of course. The parents are always made out to be the gullible, "walk all over me" types. It's really no wonder that our youth holds so little respect for their parents, elders and adults in general.
Feminist have been all over Disney for a long time. I had a good friend in high school whose mom could point out all sorts of inappropriate things in Disney movies. The original little Mermaid cover for example had a penis hidden in the castle. Crazy, yes, but I did have that movie and it was certainly on the cover. Someone was getting a little too creative at work.
